A WOLF’S JOURNEY
All aspects of my life—personal, physical, emotional, professional, financial, familial, social—were irrevocably damaged and disfigured over two decades ago. My spine “collapsed” during a noon basketball game at a YMCA. A long story getting to that day, but a short one for how fast that life ended.
I’m not going to digress into the scorched-earth and ash heaps that were left in the wake of that firestorm. But if you’re interested, I wrote a Top Ten Nonfiction book about the Greyhound service dog who came along and saved my life. Check out Comet's Tale here.
What I am going to do, though, is explain why I’m inviting you to chase along my new game trail with me, to follow with your encouragement and support. I announced my 5k run, 50 miles bike ride knowing many would consider that challenge to be a modest one, at best.
But, realize, 1998 was the last time I ever took a running step. And a 15 hour spinal reconstruction, over a decade of rehabilitation and 30+ more medical procedures allowed me to get back on a bicycle last summer for the first time since those late 90s. I’m upright, walking and just wanting to learn how to gleefully romp through my new territory. It’s a HUGE challenge for me.
I want to include my entire communities—business, social media, friends, acquaintances, strangers...anybody who feels like trotting along. Because, even though details are still being flushed out, Wolf’s Journey is going to end in a grand fundraising party for a couple of groups in my new Valley/Waterloo/Elkhorn home towns. Please join in. I’d appreciate your support!!
